I had such a great weekend and I’m so excited to share it with you, particularly with the Austinites.
Ladies: have you heard of The Ruby Collaborative? Well if you haven’t, it’s something you’ll want to get involved in! In the founders’ words, “The Ruby is a group and gathering place for artists, designers and small business owners to connect within the Austin community.” They host different events during the year, and last Saturday they held a workshop called, “Come with a Dream, Leave with a Plan” at the beautiful Argus Cidery in the Austin Hill Country.
Kerri Keaton Hughey of The Wellgro Co., a local organization tackling the childhood obesity epidemic in the US, led the group in setting realistic goals and making a 10-year plan to work towards our dreams.
The interior of Argus Cidery was, of course, incredibly charming and well-designed. Samantha Jensen did the floral arrangements and the cidery provided us with a brunch of berries, crudités and quiche. We sipped on cider as our dreams came to life on the paper in front of us. What struck me most beyond the beautiful setting was the overwhelming feeling of support that came from Ana, Candice, and Kerri. They were so sweet, welcoming, and encouraging that it was hard not to feel like I had known them forever.
The long and the short of it is, whether you’re new to Austin or long established, wanting to meet potential business partners or just meet creative and intelligent like-minded women, The Ruby is definitely worth checking out. I can’t wait until their next event!
Here’s a picture of Ana and Candice, two of The Ruby founders. (These two photos are from the Wellgro Co. blog)
The weekend ended with the Johnson’s Backyard Garden potluck out on their gorgeous East Austin property. Over the course of the evening there were about 200 people there and lots of yummy food that was demolished in seconds. The weather was perfect – warm with a light breeze and a spectacular sunset all set to the tune of live bluegrass. I made Yorkshire pudding… look out for an upcoming recipe post.
What did you do last weekend? Any exciting new adventures?
