I’ve been admiring Giovanna Battaglia’s style ever since I saw her on Scott Schuman’s street style blog, The Sartorialist, back in 2007-ish. Her look is classic, feminine, and elegant, but she doesn’t shy away from color, playfulness, or taking risks.
Italian beauty Giovanna, also known as Gio, is friends with the some of the world’s most watched fashion icons such as Anna dello Russo, Domenico Dolce & Stefano Gabbana, and Carine Roitfeld, former editor of Paris Vogue. At one point she even dated Roitfeld’s son, Vladimir Restoin-Roitfeld.
Gio started out as a model for Dolce & Gabbana and has also worked for L’Uomo Vogue (Italian men’s Vogue). She may have had a stint at Paris Vogue (I’m not entirely sure) and is now a contributor to W Magazine living in New York City. Giovanna’s sister, Sara Battaglia, still lives in Milan and is known for her up-and-coming handbag line that I feel just keeps getting better with every season. Here’s a custom one she made for Giovanna:
I love how Giovanna always seems so put-together but not overly so. There’s nothing about her that is stuffy but she’s also not as flashy as some other fashionistas. In fact, I once got into a “fight” with a New York cabbie on Giovanna vs. Anna dello Russo. He preferred Gio but I argued they were both amazing for different reasons.
What do you think of Giovanna’s style?
